Realized my furnace stopped working late last night and forecast called for very cold arctic air blast. Called my regular HVAC company that advertises 24 hour service to find that after 7 PM, there is only an answering service. Same with two more “24 hour service” companies. Then I called Thomas Hoffmann HVAC Company and Nick quickly answered, listened to my issue, gave me a quote and was on his way. Nick arrived soon, completely checked out my furnace, found the problem and did the repair. Because the problem was fairly minor, he even gave me an unexpected and very appreciated discount. Furnace would not blow heat on Friday night and after leaving a few messages to several companies, Mr Hoffman called me back quickly and did a service call. Diagnosed the issue and was able to fix the problem. Will need a new unit soon, but nice not be without heat during the holidays! Quote and Invoice receipt done on the spot and detailed! I was referred via home advisors. My AC unit was located on the ground in a very undesirable area; in the direct path of my neighbor’s downspout. I called on December 25th at midnight and started leaving a message and Thomas Hoffman the owner called me back almost immediately. He said he would come out the next morning between 8:00 and 10:00 am snd he was promptly on time. He fixed my problem and while he was there I decided to get an estimate for a new furnace and air conditioning unit. Your Filters Need to Be Changed
One common cause of HVAC heat not working is dirty air filters. Over time, filters can become clogged with debris, which can limit airflow and cause the HVAC system to work harder than it should. If you notice that your thermostat is struggling to maintain the desired temperature or your HVAC system is constantly turning on and off, checking and cleaning your filters should be the first step.
The Thermostat Isn’t Working
Another potential culprit for HVAC heat not working is a malfunctioning thermostat. If you are constantly messing with the thermostat and can’t get the room to the temperature you want, then you might want to consider that it isn’t an HVAC system issue at all. It might just be that your thermostat isn’t working correctly – or at all. Try replacing the batteries first to make sure that it has full power. Next, check to make sure that there isn’t an excessive amount of dirt and debris on or around it. If you can’t get it to work, replace it with an HVAC specialist.
The Pilot Has Gone Out
If you can’t get your heat to work, then the first place to research is to ensure that the pilot light hasn’t gone out. The pilot light should have an electronic ignition that you can see under the panel. If you don’t see a small flame lit, then it is likely that your pilot light has gone out and needs to be lit. If you light it and it goes out again, however, it is time to call a technician to figure out the problem. Since it is highly flammable, make sure you know what you are doing to ensure you don’t get hurt. Never take chances with gas lines – it is better just to call and have someone take a look than to risk injury.
