St. Louis Heat Pump, Heat Pump System, Trane Heat Pump :: Thomas Hoffmann Air Conditioning & Heating LLC

A heat pump uses electricity to heat a home in the winter months and keep it cool during the summer. They are often the most Energy Efficient HVAC option.

Heat pumps move heat rather than generate it, so they are generally more energy efficient. They can reduce the amount of electricity that would normally be used by as much as 40%. They also dehumidify the air much more effectively than standard air conditioners, which means less energy is consumed during the cooling season.

They are practical systems to use in moderate climates. To know if a heat pump is right for your home, call Thomas Hoffmann Air Conditioning & Heating LLC today at (314) 471-7625.

Energy Efficient Heat Pumps

Energy efficient heat pumps will have higher SEER and HSPF ratings than standard models. An energy efficient heat pump should give you the same service but use less energy to do so.

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. This measures a heat pump’s cooling efficiency. This is calculated by taking the cooling output during a cooling season and dividing it by the total electric energy used during that season.

The HSPF or Heating Seasonal Performance Factor, is a way of measuring the efficiency of a heat pump. It equals the ratio of the heat output to electricity used during the heating season. Therefore, the higher the HSPF the more energy efficient it is.

Trane Heat Pumps

Trane carries a wide range of energy efficient heat pumps. The XL20i has a SEER of up to 19.00 and a HSPF of 9.00. It is designed to cool your home during the summer months and heat it in the winter. Some of the others that Trane makes include:

  • XL16i – up to 18.00 SEER, 9.20 HSPF
  • XL15i – up to 16.25 SEER, 9.00 HSPF
  • XR16 – up to 18.00 SEER
  • XR15 – up to 16.50, 9.00 HSPF
  • XR13 – up to 14.50 SEER, 8.50 HSPF

Purchasing a new, energy efficient heat pump will give you the combined benefit of lower utility bills and a warm, comfortable home in the winter and a cool, refreshing home during the summer.
