Federal Tax Credits
The Federal HVAC Tax Credits Ended After 2025. Here’s What That Means.
The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) and Residential Clean Energy Credit (Section 25D) ended for equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025. Systems installed in 2026 do not qualify for these federal credits. If your qualifying system was installed and running by the end of 2025, you may still claim the credit on your 2025 federal return (IRS Form 5695). Confirm the details with your tax professional.

St. Louis HVAC Rebate Questions, Answered
Is there a rebate for a new air conditioner in St. Louis?
Possibly. Ameren Missouri’s PAYS program currently offers $1,000 for a qualifying 15.2+ SEER2 central air conditioner and $2,000 for qualifying heat pump systems, valid through December 31, 2026. Eligibility rules apply, including that your existing AC is at least 10 years old, rated 14 SEER or less, or no longer working. Call us and we’ll check your situation.
What rebates does Spire offer for a new furnace?
Spire’s Residential High-Efficiency Rebate Program currently offers $300 for gas furnaces rated 96% AFUE or greater and $200 for furnaces rated 92% to 95.99% AFUE, plus rebates for boilers, combined systems, thermostats, and water heaters. The equipment must be installed by a licensed contractor at a home with an active Spire account.
Are the federal HVAC tax credits still available?
No. The federal Section 25C and 25D credits ended for equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025, so 2026 installations do not qualify. If your system was installed by the end of 2025, you may still claim the credit on your 2025 federal return using IRS Form 5695. Confirm with your tax professional.
Do you handle the rebate paperwork?
We help with all of it. We spec equipment that meets program requirements, provide the invoices and model documentation the applications need, and help you submit correctly. Some programs, like Ameren PAYS, work through participating contractors as part of the project itself.
Can rebate amounts change?
Yes. Utility rebates are subject to program funding and can change or end without much notice. Ameren’s current PAYS rebates are valid through December 31, 2026, and Spire’s program year runs October 1 through September 30. We verify the current rules at the time of your estimate.
